According to the Theater Historical Society of America, Chopin Theatre opened March 1918 and was designed by architects Worthmann & Steinbach. Located on Chicagos iconic Lake Michigan shore, the Field Museum opened its current building to the public in 1921'but our story began years earlier. Our collection grew out of items on display in the 1893 Worlds Columbian Exposition in the'White City.' The exposition delighted visitors with 65,000 exhibits filled with natural wonders and cultural artifacts, many of which later found a permanent home in Chicago at the newly created Field Columbian Museum. In January of 1974, in Highland Park, Illinois, Rick Argosh and Leslie Wilson approached their former high school classmate Gary Sinise about staging a production of Paul Zindel's And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little. Sinise had recently graduated from high school, and Rick and Leslie had one semester remaining. Steppenwolf co-founders Jeff Perry and Gary Sinise had met and become friends at Highland Park High School. Jeff was then attending college at Illinois State University where he had met co-founder Terry Kinney.

Cloud Gate is British artist Anish Kapoor's first public outdoor work installed in the United States. The 110-ton elliptical sculpture is forged of a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates, which reflect Chicagos famous skyline and the clouds above. A 12-foot-high arch provides a ""gate"" to the concave chamber beneath the sculpture, inviting visitors to touch its mirror-like surface and see their image reflected back from a variety of perspectives.

Our Chamber's focus is bringing together LGBTQ and LGBTQ-friendly business together with each other and the community to facilitate growth for all. In 1995, Tracy Baim of Lambda Publications and Kevin Boyer of Communications Management, Inc. saw a need for a local chamber of commerce dedicated to gay and lesbian owned businesses. Joined by three other business owners, they launched the Chicago Area Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. Their goal was to have 30 Members by the first organizational meeting in March 1996.

The 606 was a decade in the making. As train traffic slowed on the Bloomingdale Line in the 1990s, attention turned to how the train line might be used to increase much-needed green space. The City of Chicago brought residents together to discuss an area of particular concern' Logan Square, a neighborhood that, at the time, had the least amount of open space per capita of any in Chicago.
